The SLG46827-A provides a small, low power component for commonly used mixed-signal functions. The user creates the circuit design by programming the multiple time Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) to configure the interconnect logic, the IOs and the macrocells of the SLG46826. This highly versatile device allows a wide variety of mixed-signal functions to be designed within a very small, low power single integrated circuit.

The SLG59H1120V datasheet shows a 400K resistor from the CAP pin to ground, in parallel with the slew rate cap. This resistor doesn't seem to be documented. What is it for and how critical is the value? In a current sharing scheme with two devices in parallel and a shared slew rate cap, should one 400k resistor be fitted or a different value?

Hi Ricardo,

This resistor is dedicated only for clamping VOUT voltage at 13.2V, means that in case VIN voltage will be higher than 13.2V, so VOUT will clamp at 13.2V anyway. If you don't need this feature, so you may not use this resistor at all. If you plan to use 2 parts in parallel, so please be noted that CSLEW should be 2 times higher to keep the same slew rate as for single-chip operation. Regarding RCAP value when using 2 parts in parallel, so we will check the operation and reply shortly.

Thanks for the reply.

So this works differently to the OVLO set on the SEL pins which turns off the output if the input is overvoltage. I'll be using the part at nominal 12V so I've set the OVLO at 14.4V. The clamp would then be active when the input voltage rises above 13.2V and the output will turn off at 14.4V. With this voltage dropped across the FET, the device may trip on the SOA protection if the load current is high enough (approx 4.16A).

How critical is the 400k value? Is there an equation involved in determining its value, and does it affect the 13.2V clamp voltage level?

Hi Ricardo, 

 In case of parallel connection, so to have the same 13.2V clamp voltage, it needs to put 200k resistor. Potentially if you will pass high current through the channel and VIN voltage is higher than 13.2V, so yes, chip may go in SOA protection. On the other hand if you don't need the feature for voltage clamp, so you can remove RCAP resistor at all and only set the slew rate by CSLEW. In this case chip will shutdown if OVLO threshold is reached.
