The SmartBond DA14682 and DA14683 are the world’s first single-chip solutions for Smart Home, Industrial and wearable devices that meets the highest security standards. These highly integrated System-on-Chip (SoC) devices support Bluetooth 5 as well as Bluetooth mesh, and include a range of dedicated features to ensure cutting-edge security for both consumers and developers.

As part of our SmartBond range, both SoCs offer industry-leading performance from the lowest power consumption and smallest footprint. Their flexible architecture ensures plenty of processing capacity when you need it while saving power when you don’t. It also allows the devices to manage multi-sensor arrays and enables always-on sensing.

Both devices offer extensive memory capacity and differ only in their memory configuration. Specifically, the DA14683 supports unlimited external Flash for maximum design flexibility while the DA14682 includes 8 Mbits of onboard Flash, making it ideal for applications with tight space constraints. Both options allow you to benefit from over-the-air updates.

How to test Secure Boot Loader

Hi!

I am trying to understand how the Secure boot loader works and I have tried to customize it a little bit (I have edited the ble_suota_loader secondary bootloader).

Now I would like to test it out before I write it in the OTP,
What is the correct way to do this? In this post it is said that I should run the code in RAM via SS-studio. How can I do this? Is there any guide I can follow to be able to do this?
Also is there any custom_config_ram.h configuration file already made that can be used in this case?

At the moment I have included custom_config_ram.h in the config folder, but no "build for ram" appears in SS-studio

Thanks for your question online. Could you please try to explain what kind of customizations you would like to accomplish?

The secure boot procedure is described on this tutorial : DA14682/DA14683 Secure Boot Tutorial 

If you need to add the secure boot feature, I would suggest you follow the above tutorial. If the procedure or the bootloader is wrong, the chips might be destroyed.

I'm trying to understeand all the features, capabilities and customizability that Sec. Boot has.

At the moment i need only a GPIO PIN triggered when the secondary bootloader starts, and I'm using the PXP_reporter project to test this out (in which I've included custom_config_ram.h from suousb_loader).

I know, so I need a set-up for testing it in a proper way before writing it in OTP.

Hi There,

You could execute it from RAM. All you need to do is to build the project from RAM configuration. 

You should be 100% that the FW is working properly before adding the secure boot feature. Another way to debug your FW is to build it for QSPI configuration and attach the debugger. I would not suggest any customization in the secure boot architecture as we cannot guarantee that will work as expected.

Thanks for the reply.

Another doubt that I got: Is the secondary bootloader executed in RAM? 

According to figure 11 in the manual, in the BootRom "orange" rectangle we can found:

1) Check "Security Device" flag

2) Swith to OTP cached mode

3) Remap addres 0x0 -> OTP and SW reset

But, when you build the code, the configuration method says: "build for MIRRORED mode".

Which one is the right one?
