The Demos Dialog is Bringing to Qualcomm’s 4G/5G Summit

Start the countdown: we’re now just a few weeks away from the Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit, which kicks off at the Kerry Hotel in Hong Kong, October 22-24. The three-day event brings together some of the biggest manufacturing and tech vendor names from around the world, to talk about the present and future of connectivity, the IoT, AI, 5G and a whole lot more. We can hardly wait ourselves, particularly to show off two exciting new travel adapter demos that support the Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ protocol.

So, whether you’ve had your registration all set for weeks already, or you’re still on the fence about whether or not to go, here are the demos that Dialog will be bringing to the 4G/5G Summit that you can look forward to.

Complete Adapter Solution for USB Power Delivery 3.0 up to 27W

First up, we have our complete solution for USB Power Delivery (PD). It showcases our iW657P USB PD interface controller, which handles the communication between a power adapter and mobile device. The iW657P:

  • Is USB-IF PD certified (USB PD 3.0 + programmable power supply)
  • Offers VCONN support for smart cables
  • Supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ protocol

The adapter design incorporates our iW1791 AC/DC primary-side controller, which utilizes Dialog’s PrimAccurate™ technology to minimize external component count and simplify design.

This demo also uses our iW676 synchronous rectifier, with active voltage position control for fast dynamic load response, very low no-load power consumption and greater than 90 percent efficiency.

Complete Adapter Solution for USB Power Delivery 3.0 up to 45W

We’ll also be showing a USB PD 3.0 adapter design that runs power output to an even higher voltage of 45W.

Like our other demo, this design also includes the iW657P USB PD secondary-side interface controller, which comes with support for USB PD 3.0 (with programmable power supply), VCONN power, integrated current sense and support for the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ protocol. This demo also features the iW676 synchronous rectifier, for over 90 percent efficiency, too.

But, they’re not totally identical. The key difference between the two is that the 45W adapter boasts an iW1799 AC/DC primary-side controller. Unlike the iW1791, which has a typical power output of 27W, the iW1799 can nearly double that output to 45W.

The Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit runs October 22-24 at the Kerry Hotel in Hong Kong, and registration is still open. If you’re attending, make sure to swing by our table, where you can check out our rapid charging demos. See you there!
