Job Title: Applications Engineer
Manager: Director of Worldwide Applications
Location: Swindon/Edinburgh/Nabern/Japan
Role Definition:
• Support and complete all device / silicon evaluation requirements assigned, and meet evaluation time scales as set by program schedule for all assigned silicon evaluations.
• Develop all necessary evaluation collateral prior to receipt of ES silicon; thus ensuring silicon evaluation can commence immediately upon receipt of ES. Secondary collateral such as applications notes should be developed on a needs basis. All collateral must meet time scales necessary to support relevant program milestones as communicated by program managers.
• Provide technical support to internal and external customers in order solve technical issues. The support should be provided within timeframes agreed with the customer (internal / external).
• Support to marketing to provide new product development ideas or to communicated errata + solutions on applications issues.
• Document and log all work relating to silicon evaluation, evaluation collateral development, customer issues and your responses.
• Ensure regular contact and communication with relevant teams / people to support your objectives. Time scales are dictated by relevant tasks.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
• Perform physical silicon device evaluation at chip and board level
• Document errata to support necessary device modifications
• Develop work around solutions where necessary to overcome device errata
• Issue errata and application solutions in conjunction with datasheets
• Develop necessary hw and sw to enable comprehensive silicon device evaluation: board design; evaluation board development; schematic capture; simulation; placement; interface with layout facility; board test
• Software tools development
• Develop silicon tool around lab view environment to enable relevant programming of the DUT to aid test.
• Documentation development: datasheets; errata notes; application notes
• Actively assist customers during their design in process on applications and device related issues.
• Providing first line technical support to customers during their design phase including system integration. This includes applications debugging.
• Interfacing with our design engineering resources to provide in depth technical responses to customers.
• Gathering and synthesizing customer inputs to impact NPD
• Development of design kits (sw / hw) to enable customers to evaluate our products.
• Assist with competitive data analysis to assist with product positioning and promotion.
• Interface to QA / Design / FAE / Customers as needed to support device issues.
Key Candidate Attributes:
Essential -
• Detailed applications knowledge in one of the following areas: wireless handheld, specifically audio and power management; consumer displays; automotive body electronics.
• Experience of IC or hw design and proven capability to provide first line applications support for IC’s
• Design skills (board level) digital and analogue
• System / device evaluation / validation skills
• Software skills (device programming / tools)
• Previous proven experience of customer interface
• Written and verbal English is mandatory.
• Flexible to undertake international travel at short notice
